Xarkis Festival took place in Polystipos (Nicosia District) from the 16th-18th of August and it showcased the results of their Artists' Residency program which begun on 11th of August, alongside a series of additional activities over the course of three days.

They were focused on the themes of "Bottom-up heritage", "Symbiosis" and "Hybridity". Starting from there, these ideas in combination with the meaning of the word Xarkis, which implies to start all over again and to reset our defaults, for this year we have put together a Festival program which questions, disrupts and re-evaluates the theme of Borders.

They are an independent festival that explores folk, vernacular culture, fluid identities + evolving "Cypriotness". We like to do this through contemporary art + design practices, non-formal education + through experimenting with participatory + socially engaged approaches.
